Seabank Road Environmental Improvements

The works currently being carried out in the Seabank Road shopping area are designed to improve the economic viability of the shops, upgrade the local environment and improve the safety of road users and pedestrians.

The project was developed by New Wallasey Regeneration in conjunction with the traders and consists of three separate elements:

As the Christmas shopping period approaches it is important to ensure that all major obstructions in the road and on the pavements are removed as soon as possible to allow unimpeded access to the shops.

The road works are now substantially complete and the pavement works are expected to be completed in early December.

The Victorian style canopies are being fitted to thirty-five shops. Three further premises will receive canopies if extra funding can be made available. The canopy in front of the Post Office has been completed and gives an indication of what the final scheme will look like. The canopy supplier has had to rephase the erection of the canopies in order to co-ordinate with the pavement works. All foundations and columns are therefore being erected in advance of the roofs being constructed. It is anticipated that all works will be completed by Christmas.

The improvement grant scheme will run until the end of March 2004. All funds for the grants have now been allocated with thirty-six grants having been awarded.

The total cost of the works being carried out in the shopping area of Seabank Road is in the region of £500,000 and is being funded by the Wirral Waterfront Initiative.
