Some kind of development for New Brighton
Something tasteful and useful all year round.
No more Clubs or Pubs!! Improvement of Leisure facilities.
IT NEEDS A BIG DEVELOPMENT ! LONG OVERDUE !
Yes but we do not feel a resort type development in England in the 21st century is viable – look at Blackpool. It’s one thing to build it but another to maintain and promote it!
New Brighton needs a major development to attract business and tourism which in turn creates employment and prosperity.
It has to be based on the needs of our community and to be feasible 12 months of the year – we do not need a graveyard from September to April.
Very much so – we have nothing whatsoever to do for leisure in New Brighton. We are always left out of everything.
It’s about time some leisure facilities were installed.
New Brighton needs a new development to bring it in line and up to date with other resorts providing it is done with great thought and with N.B. residents support.
It will hopefully bring prosperity to the area.
NEW BRIGHTON NEEDS A MAIN ATTRACTION IN THE FORM OF AN OLYMPIC SIZE SWIMMING POOL WHICH WOULD BE OPEN 12 MONTHS OF THE YEAR. A PLASTIC DOME WOULD COVER IT DURING THE WINTER MONTHS. AT THE MOMENT ALL THAT N.B. OFFERS TO THE TOURIST IS FRESH AIR.
It would be nice to see New Brighton used more with more to do.
It’s about time some investment was put into this area of the Wirral. Needs to encourage visitors but provide services for local people and be “family friendly”
THE AREA IS RIPE FOR DEVELOPMENT. I WOULD FAVOUR FACILITIES FOR THE YOUNG NOT JUST TOURIST ORIENTATED DEVELOPMENTS.
I would like to see controlled, imaginative and innovative development without being outlandish or over the top. It needs careful thought and planning. N.B. is seen more as a day-trip place rather than a holiday resort – conference clientele may be/could be encouraged.
I BELIEVE THE BEST AND MOST FEASIBLE DEVELOPMENT WOULD BE A PLEASURE DOME SIMILAR TO THE ONE AT RHYLL INCORPORATING AN ALL- WEATHER SWIMMING POOL.
People have always been attracted to this part of the coastline. It is very beautiful and could raise money for the whole area. We could attract artists and craft people like the Left Bank in Paris……..
DEVELOPMENT IS LONG OVERDUE. THERE IS SO MUCH TO OFFER RESIDENTS AND VISITORS.
Development for the area is long overdue. When visitors come to the area they have very little to do. We need something for the local people and something that will attract visitors and something that will take the local kids off the streets.
IT WILL NEVER BE A FIRST CLASS RESORT AGAIN BUT SOME DEVELOPMENT IS BADLY NEEDED.
Most definitely – a complex, shopping, swimming, cinemas, arcades etc.
WE NEED IT SO MUCH.
I would like to see the potential of the area brought out – more opportunities for jobs for local people and development for visitors.
ANYTHING THAT IS FUN AND WOULD BREATHE SOME LIFE INTO THE AREA WOULD BE GOOD – E.G. AN OPEN AIR POOL.
Sick of hearing about fancy schemes which inevitably fall flat. Just do it!!
Somewhere for young people to go – they aren’t doing any harm on the old baths site so make something like that for their bikes.
TOO MUCH OF THE OLD NEW BRIGHTON HAS BEEN PULLED DOWN. I AM NOT IN FAVOUR OF EXISTING BUILDINGS BEING REMOVED.
Places for the young people to get together – skating etc. Possibly an indoor skating rink for the winter.
PROVIDED ANY DEVELOPMENT IS TARGETED TOWARDS BRINGING MONEY, TOURISTS, ENTERTAINMENT – ABOVE ALL CREATING EMPLOYMENT IN WALLASEY/NEW BRIGHTON. ALSO PROFITS FROM SUCH AN ENDEAVOUR SHOULD REMAIN IN WALLASEY, NOT SQUANDERED IN BIRKENHEAD – MOST IMPORTANT OF ALL – KEEP THE COUNCIL FROM INTERFERING!!
DEFINITELY.
In favour but let’s not pretend we want a return to the old days. Development in keeping with the times – not a tatty seaside resort that dies in winter.
REDEVELOPMENT, YES. THE BATHS BACK. THE PIER BACK AND FAIRGROUND BACK. SMALL SHOPS BACK – COMMUNITY BACK.
I approve of any scheme to improve leisure facilities in New Brighton. At the moment it is a waste of its potential.
I would like to see more leisure facilities – swimming baths and Fairground. Also a good hotel and motel to get visitors to come and stay.
I THINK THERE SHOULD BE A LEISURE CENTRE AND THE FLORAL PAVILION SHOULD BE MADE INTO A FIRST CLASS THEATRE. ALSO SOME REALLY NICE PLACES TO EAT WITH LOVELY MUSIC. IT WOULD DO NO HARM TO LOOK AT SOME OF THE PLACES IN SPAIN.
CREATE BISTRO ATMOSPHERE WHICH WOULD DRIVE LOW LIFE OUT AND BACK TO SEACOMBE AND BIRKENHEAD.
Absolutely. As there is nothing to do, half the time it’s like a Ghost Town.
Young people are begging for simple secure space. Swimming Pool, Skate Board Park, Area for B.M.X. Biking.
WERE SOME OF THE PLANS DRAWN UP ON THE BACK OF AN ENVELOPE? Concentrate on a nice indoor Leisure Centre like Rhyll Sun Centre – shops, restaurants etc. Don’t waste money on outdoor swimming pools- they don’t pay – try to keep the area upmarket – no more 3rd rate housing and cheap flats (used mainly for DSS)
But only if it’s not at the expense of something else.
NEW BRIGHTON HAS NEEDED SOME KIND OF DEVELOPMENT FOR MANY YEARS SO YES I WELCOME THIS WITH OPEN ARMS AND I TAKE MY HAT OFF TO YOU. I JUST HOPE THAT THIS DEVELOPMENT DOESN’T FALL THROUGH LIKE THE PREVIOUS ONES BEFORE.
There is scope for limited development such as a heated swimming pool, refurbishment to Floral Pavilion.
IT WOULD BE A SOUND INVESTMENT.
IT’S ABOUT TIME!! WHENEVER WE HAVE LOST A FACILITY IT’S NEVER REPLACED. WHAT HAPPENS TO THE INSURANCE MONEY FROM THESE BUILDINGS? IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN PUT TOWARDS REPLACEMENT.
Development that would benefit local people should be first consideration – such facilities are severely lacking.
We need an indoor pool with waves and slides etc. In an ideal world it should have a retractable roof for when the weather is occasionally mild!! We need a
cinema and nice cafes. New Brighton should be the leisure centre for this part of the Wirral.
CAREFULLY SELECTED SITES ONLY.
DEPENDING ON EXACT DEVELOPMENTS AND PRECISE LOCATIONS.
BUT NOT OVER DEVELOPMENT AS IN SOME TOWNS ON MERSEYSIDE AND WIRRAL.
New Brighton needs a cinema, a swimming pool and a leisure centre.
NO ANSWER WITHOUT MORE INFORMATION. GUT REACTION ON FIRST READING WOULD BE NO.
Improved facilities but not to the detriment of open spaces.
SOME SORT OF DEVELOPMENT ON THE FORMER BATHS SITE AND ADJOINING DIP WOULD TIDY UP THAT AREA OPPOSITE MARINE PARK – A LOW BUILDING IN KEEPING WITH THE SURROUNDING AREA.
I would like to see a children’s playground such as the development at the Quarry.
LIKE A RHYLL SUNCENTRE.
Swimming pool, cinema, dancing venue, fireworks for special occasions, side-shows.
IF DONE WITHOUT TAKING TOO MUCH OF LEISURE GREEN AREA.
Can you imagine the rubbish and dirt left by day trippers? It’s worse than bad already with filthy roads and pavements.
I think there is need of some development for New Brighton, as I realise that, although I like it the way it is ( providing all the derelict buildings are taken down). There’s not a lot to do and not much shelter for visitors when the weather is bad – and very few decent toilets!!
PROVIDED SOME OF MY FOLLOWING COMMENTS ARE TAKEN INTO CONSIDERATION AS OVER DEVELOPMENT CAN POSSIBLY LEAD TO AN ADVERSE RESULT.
Developments on green field sites
As long as some are left for the Wirral Show.
NOT HOUSING DEVELOPMENT.
NO – we need our few remaining open spaces to be left as they are!
These have been diminished over the past few years and there is no room for any erosion of the existing green field sites as this would change the features and the character of the New Brighton area
As long as the developments are tourism orientated and not housing.
Yes under strict conditions and subject to local – not NIMBY – approval.
GREENFIELD/GREENBELT MUST REMAIN.
Better used than building more houses.
There is little enough green belt land in the Wirral without more development.
ONLY AS A LAST RESORT.
New developments bring in business.
Too many Greenfield sites around the country are being taken over.
WE NEED TO RETAIN SOME AREAS WHERE CHILDREN CAN PLAY AND PEOPLE CAN WALK.
Development must be sympathetic to the environment and local people.
To me the green spaces are part of the characteristic of New Brighton now. These areas are used by people for picnics, games, walking etc. we need space in our lives.
Not too much loss of open space.
WE NEED GREENS.
Children’s playground on the Tower Grounds needs to be made safer and more attractive. Build on the Dips if needs be. Does the Wirral Show help our area more than a permanent arrangement?
DON’T WANT N.B. TO END UP LIKE SEASIDE TOWN. KIDS NEED SPACE TO RUN.
So long as it isn’t more houses. I think the local kids should be asked for their opinions if it keeps them off the streets and from causing trouble because of boredom.
I DON’T THINK THAT IS NECESSARY – THERE IS PLENTY OF SPACE.
I WOULD PREFER THAT ALL THE BROWN SITES WERE VITALISED FIRST – GREEN SITES SHOULD BE A LAST RESORT.
I feel the areas of open space are quite unique in urban areas and should be protected.
Not sure – it would depend on the nature of the development.
IF THE DEVELOPMENTS ARE FOR THE COMMUNITY AND NOT PRIVATE PROFIT.
NOT SURE WHERE THIS IS……….
NO.
If this would keep young folk from playing on the roads. What about a Caravan Park? I’m sure that would be very popular as I used to come to Caravan Club rallies here.
THE BIGGEST OPPOSITION WILL COME FROM WELLINGTON ROAD, SEA ROAD AND WARREN DRIVE – IT HAS BEEN THUS FOR AS LONG AS I HAVE BEEN ALIVE – 54 YEARS.
We think it is important to have open spaces and also the Wirral Show uses this area.
TOTALLY AGAINST BUILDING ON GREENFIELD SITES.
HERE IS PLENTY OF SPACE FROM THE BATHS SITE TO THE CHELSEA REACH FOR BUILDING AND REBUILDING WHAT NEW BRIGHTON NEEDS. THIS IS ENGLAND NOT AMERICA.
Any improvements anywhere would be good.
I AM NOT QUITE SURE WHAT YOU MEAN HERE BUT IF YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT THE DIPS MY ANSWER IS – NO, NO AND NO AGAIN. I HAVE JUST COME IN AFTER BEING THERE WHEN THE CHILDREN ARE PLAYING SAFELY AND HAPPILY SO WHY SPOIL IT?
ABSOLUTELY NOT – DON’T EVEN CONSIDER IT!!
No need to build on green field sites. There are plenty of brown sites and disused shops and houses in need of restoration.
NO MORE HOUSES! PRESERVE WHAT LITTLE “GREEN FIELDS” WE HAVE.
I think too many green fields are going and we have to save what is left.
To be honest I’m not really bothered as long as it doesn’t affect the area where I live. Will you be chopping any trees down because some people might object but don’t worry – I won’t.
ANY FURTHER DEVELOPMENT OF WHAT REMAINS OF THE GREEN FIELD SITES WOULD LOWER THE VALUE OF THE PROPERTIES SURROUNDING THE SITE – SPOIL THE VIEW – CLOSE EVERYONE IN……….
Build on a precious green field site? – NO WAY! There is not enough green as it is. This area is not in desperate need of housing – we are not the South East yet!! Does money over-ride everything?
AS LONG AS THEY DO NOT BUILD ON ALL GREEN FIELD SITES.
ONLY FACILITIES FOR VISITORS – NO HOUSES – SO THEY HAVE SOMETHING TO COME TO NEW BRIGHTON FOR, NOT JUST TO PARK THEIR CAR AND WALK!! IT’S ATTRACTIONS VISITORS NEED.
These sites are an important part of leisure areas.
We need all the green spaces we have got. The Dips are a great amenity for the people of Wallasey – many who don’t have gardens to sit in - and for children, and dogs, to play in. Also, they are ideal for the Circus and Wirral Show. Don’t let anyone build on them!!
ALL GREEN AREAS TO BE MAINTAINED.
MOST DEFINITELY NOT.
The green field sites should remain as they are otherwise we are going to end up overcrowded and stifled.
In agreement with Environmental Policy it is essential to develop brown field sites and imperative to save our green field sites.
FEW GREEN SITES – USEFUL FOR FAMILIES TO ENTERTAIN CHILDREN AT LITTLE COST.
ONCE ONE GREEN SITE IS USED IT WON’T BE LONG BEFORE ALL ARE USED FOR “GOOD CAUSES”.
IT SHOULD BE LEFT AS IT IS.
Not many green field sites left bar the Dips which should be left alone.
Absolutely opposed to development on green field sites.
NO. NOT ON THE DIPS AS THESE ARE LOVELY PLAY AREAS.
The only field sites I would like to see developed are the ones that previously had buildings on them.
PROVIDED THAT THESE SITES ARE NOT ALREADY BEING USED FOR CULTURAL OR RECREATIONAL PURPOSES.
On the old New Brighton Baths site and the one Dip where it doesn’t block people’s views.
CHILDREN’S ACTIVITIES.
Provided they did not take over sites already designated as leisure areas.
DEFINITELY NO. LEAVE WELL ALONE.
The beauty of New Brighton is the fact that there is sea on one side and
green fields on the other. There has been enough building on green fields already.
PROVIDED CERTAIN GREEN AREAS REMAIN FOR STROLLERS,
DOG EXERCISING ETC.
A new pier
It would make the existing ferry cruises longer.
Piers have gone out of popularity over the last few decades.
It may require expensive upkeep/ repair/ security. Fares would need to be reasonable otherwise people will not use the ferry and will continue to come by car.
SOONER THE BETTER!
I would like to see another direct connection between New Brighton and Liverpool opened up.
A pier is a white elephant and completely out of place for
a town like New Brighton. It would take an unlimited amount of money to build and maintain. Only one new pier has been built in the last 50 years with limited success.
The old pier should never have been left to decline – most of the tourism resorts around our coastline have piers.
This is a good idea but, given the tidal changes, is it a going one? .
Would rather have a good leisure complex.
A SPLENDID IDEA BUT TOTALLY UNECONOMIC
The fares should be competitive to force down Arriva fares. Arriva should not be allowed any involvement.
I THINK A NEW PIER WOULD BE A TREMENDOUS ADDITION TO NEW BRIGHTON.
Something different all ages can enjoy.
THIS WOULD BRING THOUSANDS OF VISITORS FROM LIVERPOOL.
GOOD TO HAVE THE PIER BACK WITH MORE VISITORS.
Excellent idea.
A pier would appeal to young and old alike – it would be getting back to the real old New Brighton as fondly remembered by many and would provide a focal point.
IT WOULD BE A GREAT IDEA.
IT WOULD BE A SPLENDID IDEA BUT I AM SURE THE COST WOULD BE PROHIBITIVE.
Preferably a traditional pier not a state of the art modern development.
We need to provide as much fun as possible for the residents and visitors. Let’s get the development running and build on from there.
I HAVE ALWAYS THOUGHT BRINGING THE PIER AND FERRIES BACK WOULD BE AN EXCELLENT IDEA.
THE OLD ONE SHOULD NEVER HAVE BEEN REMOVED.
I am for the pier but would rather have a complex if it was one or the other.
This would need to be well researched as, if not used, could easily fall into disrepair and become an eyesore.
I think this might be good for the area and also for its community.
THE OLD PIER WAS A DEFINITE ASSET. THERE IS NO REASON TO BELIEVE A NEW ONE WOULD NOT BE THE SAME.
I think it would be a good idea – we need visitors to keep business going.
I DO NOT THINK THIS WOULD BE PRACTICAL.
A VERY GOOD IDEA.
Again, the previous pier should never have been demolished. A PURELY POLITICAL ACT. At the time the foreman in charge stated that the then structure would have stood for another 100 years such was its robust condition. So, yes, a new pier by all means.
AGREE BUT THINK IT WOULD BE TOO EXPENSIVE TO DREDGE RIVER TO ENABLE FERRY SERVICES TO OPERATE. Also, more people come in cars now compared to years ago so don’t think it would pay.
EXCELLENT PLAN.
This is the age of the car and upkeep of a pier and ferries is prohibitive. We have hundreds of car parking spaces – we could have transport laid on from Seacombe and Birkenhead to make more use of those ferries already running.
WHY NOT COMMUTER?
WHAT A GREAT IDEA! I HAD MANY HAPPY TRIPS IN MY YOUTH WHEN THERE WAS ENTERTAINMENT ON THE PIER.
We should have a pier and I will tell you that I fought very hard to have the old pier repaired but of course, as usual, no one listens. I am sure that it cost more to bring down than it would to repair it.
It would be a boost to New Brighton and would entice many more tourists.
NO. WE NEED CONSIDERATION FOR THE RESIDENTS OF NEW BRIGHTON. WHAT VISITORS? GOING WHERE?
Good idea if it works – but let’s see the design first!! We got the Clown without a consultation!
I have put “FOR” the pier but who will upkeep it and will there be enough commuters all year?
YES PLEASE. I’M ALL FOR IT. I’LL BE ABLE TO GO TO THE MATCH ON THE FERRY. EXCELLENT IDEA. THUMBS UP. GREAT.
DO IT!!
RIDICULOUS!! WHERE ON EARTH WOULD THE MONEY COME FROM TO BUILD A PIER?
Good idea. Why get rid of the original in the first place. Be good to see the ferries sailing. What about sailings to Eastham Ferry with its woodlands and a new café which is supposed to be being built?
Visitors flock to New Brighton and there’s nothing for them to do.
THINK THIS IS A NON STARTER – MONEY COULD BE USED ELSEWHERE.
I THINK THIS SHOULD BE THE LAST TO BE DEVELOPED AS NEW BRIGHTON HAS EXCELLENT PUBLIC TRANSPORT LINKS – THE MONEY SHOULD BE FIRST SPENT ON ATTRACTIONS TO BRING PEOPLE HERE IN THE FIRST PLACE.
Do we have enough ferry boats to carry on a good service? Who pays for maintenance of this structure?
The old one was unstable and New Brighton, as with Blackpool, has always had a pier.
THE OLD PIER WAS ALWAYS VERY POPULAR.
WHAT FORM WOULD THE PIER TAKE? WOULD IT HOUSE ANY OTHER FACILITY? IS A “NON-COMMUTER” FERRY FOR “DAY TRIPPERS” WHO WOULD ONLY TRAVEL WHEN THE SUN SHINES?
WHO WOULD PAY FOR THE ONGOING UPKEEP OF THE PIER?
We couldn’t afford to keep the old pier in good repair.
The best suggestion of all.
I WOULD LOVE TO HAVE THE PIER BACK BUT CAN THE FERRIES COPE WITH ONLY THREE BOATS?
DEFINITELY A MARVELLOUS IDEA. USE THE RESORT AS IT WAS MEANT TO BE USED. MAKE THE MOST OF ITS ASSETS.
Waste of money!
THIS WOULD SERVE TO INCREASE THE NUMBER OF VISITORS AS MANY ARE PUT OFF BY THE TRAIN, BUS AND CAR JOURNEYS. ARRIVING BY BOAT IS MUCH MORE ATTRACTIVE.
Don’t really care either way.
Dancing on the pier on occasions – as in the past.
A PIER WAS ALL RIGHT YEARS AGO WHEN PEOPLE DID NOT HAVE 1 OR 2 CARS A FAMILY, HENCE PUBLIC TRANSPORT WAS WELL USED.
This would bring more day trippers than we already get. NO THANK YOU.
I think it would be a waste of money. We already had a pier which I thought was great. The powers that be took it down so why build another
one? I think the old one could have been repaired if they had wanted to.
THIS WOULD BE A VERY WELCOME ADDITION AS THE BUS TERMINUS IS RATHER DISTANT FOR THE AGED AND CHILDREN TO VISIT ANY FACILITIES THAT MAY DEVELOP.
An open air swimming pool
As long as it doesn’t adversely affect Mike Jones’ business.
Indoor, yes. A fun-splash all year round with additional facilities.
Past experience has shown open air pools are not practical in the north of England due to the climate. How about a covered pool?
EXCELLENT IDEA! This should be covered in for all year round use.
Not feasible for our climate – should have a retractable roof and be Olympic
size to attract swimmers all year round and promote international competition.
NOT IN OUR CLIMATE – A HUGE YES TO SWIMMING FACILITIES IN OUR AREA - IDEALLY A LEISURE COMPLEX SUCH AS RHYLL SUN CENTRE.
We need something for the kids – family attractions not “pie in the sky”wishes which won’t work.
A NONSENSE!
Surely an indoor pool would be more profitable. Local schools and local people could use it all year round.
This site is used by the Skateboarders and BMX riders – better facilities should be provided for them.
A great idea as the old one is sorely missed and still talked about with great sentiment and fond memories. A must.
NEW ALL-PURPOSE POOL ON THE OLD SITE.
The younger generation need something to occupy them and it may help to reduce kids hanging around the street.
This would be the main attraction to New Brighton. Leave the Marine Lake as it is & erect a new olympic size swimming pool which could be covered with a plastic dome during the winter months on the site of the old New Brighton Pool. The dome would be similar to the one in the Liscard precinct.
SOMETHING THE NEW BRIGHTON PEOPLE HAVE WANTED FOR A LONG TIME - AS LONG AS THE SAILING SCHOOL IS ACCOMMODATED.
IT’S ABOUT TIME WE HAD SOME KIND OF LEISURE FACILITY
IN WALLASEY. I’M SURE IT WOULD BE WELL USED. I SPENT
HOURS IN BOTH OPEN POOLS AS A CHILD. COST WOULD
HAVE TO BE AFFORDABLE FOR LOCAL PEOPLE THOUGH.
I feel there is sufficient acreage for a pool facility to be sited away from the Marine Lake – this is small enough already.
Provided it is viable. Would it be better covered due to inclement weather conditions?
There is no longer any demand for open air swimming pools – all those on the Wirral have now closed.
WHY OPEN AIR? A SWIMMING POOL WOULD BE FANTASTIC SO WHY ONLY USE IT ON THE ODD DAY THE SUN COMES OUT?!!
A suncentre would be better – the weather can be inclement in the summer too. What about an ice rink next door to heat the pool?
IT WILL BE HELPFUL TO THE LOCALS.
THE AREA NEEDS A SWIMMING POOL – IT WOULD BE SAFER THAN THE SEA. IT WOULD BE SOMEWHERE FOR LOCALS TO GO INSTEAD OF TRAVELLING TO BIRKENHEAD.
A leisure centre would be preferable.
We need a pool which is open year round for the community.
THE CLOSURE OF THE OPEN AIR POOL WAS A LOSS TO THE AREA. IT WOULD BE GOOD TO SUPPORT AND ENHANCE ACTIVITIES OF THE SAILING SCHOOL. THIS IS GREATLY IN NEED OF IMPROVEMENT.
Most definitely. Brilliant idea.
Wirral seem to have a policy of getting rid of swimming pools. Still! Miracles may happen.
I CANT UNDERSTAND WHY WE CANT HAVE IT ON THE OLD SITE. JUST LEAVE THE LAKE AS IT IS.
I WOULD PREFER THIS TO BE ON ITS ORIGINAL SITE. THE MARINE LAKE IS WELL USED AND POPULAR WITH LOCALS AND FAMILIES.
A very good idea but could there be some place for an ice skating rink?
Any future pool should be of comparable size to the previous one. It should be constructed in such a manner as to provide all facilities for leisure and be of Olympic standard. However it should occupy its old site plus the old car park
next door. The pool should also be covered when necessary. Marine Lake
could, as before, be used as a water school.
STRONGLY AGREE TO THIS BUT HAVE RESERVATIONS RE OPEN AIR DUE TO OUR POOR SUMMERS. THINK EVENTS ARENA AND SAILING SCHOOL EXCELLENT.
GOOD IDEA.
But why open air? It would hardly have been used this year. We need a covered pool that can possibly be uncovered in warm weather.
ALL YEAR ROUND COVERED POOL OR ICE RINK (WINTER).
The development of New Brighton has been neglected for far too long.
I THINK MY THOUGHTS ON THE MATTER ARE WELL RECORDED AS I HAVE WRITTEN TO THE WALLASEY NEWS MANY TIMES REGARDING IT – (I AM ALL FOR IT).
I am not too sure about using Marine Lake so I will think about this for the moment.
A CLOSED POOL WOULD BE MORE BENEFICIAL AND PROVIDE FACILITIES ON AN ALL YEAR ROUND BASIS.
Sailing School needs to be expanded and deserves it for staying when everyone else left New Brighton.
EXCELLENT IDEA. LET’S HOPE IT COMES TRUE THEN NEW BRIGHTON WILL BE BOOMING ONCE AGAIN.
THE SWIMMING POOL ON THE ORIGINAL SITE. DO NOT CHANGE THE CONDITIONS OF THE MARINE LAKE.
I want to see an indoor pool – you are very mistaken if you think an outdoor pool will work – a money loss straight away – this is England – remember our summers - indoor like B’head’s Europa please! Please!
AN INDOOR SWIMMING POOL COMPLEX FOR YEAR-LONG USE IS ESSENTIAL FOR THE FUTURE OF NEW BRIGHTON. EVERYBODY KNOWS THIS!!! GIVEN OUR SUMMER CLIMATE AN OPEN AIR POOL IS COMPLETE NONSENSE.
Pool to be adaptable for all year round swimming. How about skating – both sorts?
Don’t see why pool cannot be used all year. Don’t think there would be much use for an events arena.
WE HAVE NEEDED THIS FOR YEARS. YET AGAIN THUMBS UP. EXCELLENT. GREAT. SUPER. I CAN’T WAIT FOR THIS TO COME
TO FRUITION. I MISS THE OLD BATHS SO I WELCOME THIS
WITH OPEN ARMS. GO FOR IT!!
But why not open all year? Football pitches and tennis stadia have moving roofs so why not a swimming pool?
WHY OPEN AIR? WITH OUR WEATHER GLASS IT IN LIKE RHYLL SUN CENTRE. I WOULD GO AS I SWIM AT GUINEA GAP BUT OPEN AIR – NO. I WOULD LIKE TO SEE AN ALL YEAR ROUND POOL WITH DISABLED FACILITIES ESPECIALLY FOR CHILDREN.
A swimming pool would be great.
I’M FOR IT.
Area too small. Open air swimming pool can only be used a few weeks a year. Far more sensible and profitable to build an indoor pool or complex.
I’m in favour of a swimming pool – but not an open air pool. Our weather is not ideal. We need a covered pool that can be used all year round. The old New Brighton pool was only popular on very hot days. Also one third of the Marine Lake is not big enough.
PROVIDING IT CAN BE USED ALL YEAR ROUND.
I SWAM FOR NORTH WEST ENGLAND AND AS AN AVID SWIMMER I WOULD LOVE TO SEE A POOL HERE. BEING DISABLED, SWIMMING IS THE ONLY EXERCISE I CAN DO.
I would like a swimming pool which could be covered in the winter months and therefore used all year round.
Would like more information – would it be public access or private membership – parking – access etc?
I WOULD SUGGEST AN ALL YEAR ROUND POOL.
YES BUT SITED ELSEWHERE.
PUT AN INDOOR POOL ON THE OLD POOL SITE WITH A HEALTH AND FITNESS CENTRE.
A swimming pool is a marvellous idea but not open air – summer 2002 has been a good example – to date we have had only about 14 days when it could be used. How about a sliding roof?!! Yes to an upgrade on sailing facilities.
Definitely against open air pool. Would prefer covered heated pool. An open air pool would be a waste of money.
AN OPEN AIR SWIMMING POOL IS SILLY IN OUR CLIMATE.
An open air swimming pool in U.K. weather!! ABSURD.
A Leisure Centre inclusive of indoor pool would be more practicable.
SHOULD’VE KEPT THE OLD ONE. IT’S TOO LATE TO BUILD ANOTHER ONE – TIMES HAVE CHANGED.
There’s not enough hot days a year to justify one – years ago people would use it – now people go abroad even for the weekend.
A POOL FOR ALL SEASONS.
Swimming pool with retractable roof considering the weather we have.
THE LAKE IS O.K. AS IT IS. LEAVE IT ALONE!!
I think the Marine Lake is too small and to take off 1/3 would, I feel sure, spoil the fun of the activities of the people who already use it. However I do feel a swimming pool would be good but it needs to be built to allow for swimming all year round – open air for summer but closed for winter.
I WOULD LIKE THE POOL TO BE FILLED WITH SEA WATER SUITABLY FILTERED TO BRITISH STANDARDS.
Refurbishment of Floral Pavilion/Conference Centre
N.B. needs a decent theatre (with adequate parking) since the Tivoli and Winter Gardens closed.
Great idea! Would make us more like Southport/Lytham St Annes and handy for N Wales/Chester/Liverpool.
Great! I enjoy going to the Floral for shows. It could do with a facelift.
Personally I think the Floral as it is has a charm of its own – refurbishment in its present style would be nice.
Not a high priority.
It needs updating – an excellent facility but with expansion could attract
bigger acts.
Excellent idea – would attract local business as well as businesses from further afield.
We need to use the Floral more – need a more varied programme – INTERNATIONAL NAMES .
Area suffers from a lack of suitable hotel accommodation so could not sustain a Conference/Exhibition Hall.
A bigger theatre would be an asset.
A Conference Centre would help the hotel trade.
A MUST – I’M SURE IT WOULD BE A GREAT ASSET.
FLORAL PAVILION HAS NEEDED REFURBISHING FOR SOME TIME AND THE CONFERENCE CENTRE WOULD BRING MORE BUSINESS.
Definitely needs refurbishing – I go quite often but it is not exactly
inviting in its present state especially if we are to encourage visitors.
Improvement of the Floral can only benefit the whole community and tourism alike.
IT WOULD BE GOOD TO ATTRACT DIFFERENT GROUPS TO CONFERENCES AND EXHIBITIONS.WOULD WE NEED A DECENT SIZED HOTEL?
The more there is to bring visitors to New Brighton the better. A conference/exhibition hall would have the potential of all year round use.
YES – ALL MEMBERS OF THE BUSINESS, EDUCATION, SOCIAL SERVICES AND THE HEALTH SERVICE COULD USE IT IF IT WAS POSH ENOUGH. WE COULD ENTERTAIN MORE FOLK FROM EUROPE AND OVERSEAS.
Depends on the usefulness of the Floral Pavilion. I do not think there is much at the moment.
FOR THE REFURBISHMENT OF THE FLORAL PAVILION. AGAINST CONFERENCE/EXHIBITION HALL.
Local people use the Pavilion – if it were bigger it could possibly attract bigger acts.
THE FLORAL IS DESPERATELY IN NEED OF REFURBISHMENT – NOT SURE WHO WOULD WANT THE CONFERENCE FACILITIES AND WOULD LIKE TO KEEP THE CRAZY GOLF.
Floral Pavilion needs refurbishing – particularly inside – also needs better access and promotion.
WONDERFUL IDEA. VERY MUCH IN FAVOUR.
I would agree but will we benefit from it? Will people use it? It seems a lot of money if it just stands there not in use.
IN FAVOUR.
The Floral Pavilion in its present capacity is absolutely useless. The building should be levelled and a completely new theatre built with appropriate conference facilities. A decent sized ballroom should be included in any re-build.
VERY GOOD IDEA AS FLORAL PAVILION IS USED FOR SHOWS ALL THE YEAR ROUND.
This would bring people in and around the area.
AS THE FLORAL PAVILION IS THE ONLY THEATRE LEFT IN WALLASEY I AGREE WITH THE REFURBISHMENT.
I’ve always enjoyed going to the shows with my grandchildren and found it comfortable and clean – any refurbishment would be a bonus. An Exhibition hall would add to tourist attractions and the more tourists we get the better.
AS THE FLORAL PAVILION IS THE ONLY THEATRE/CINEMA LEFT IN WALLASEY I AGREE WITH THE SUPERMARKET.
BRING EXTRA HOTEL ACCOMMODATION + BAR + RESTAURANT BUSINESS + SCOUTING OR DAY TRIPS + P.R. VISITS.
Great idea.
Why endow private individuals (again) with what is intended to benefit the locality?
NO DOUBTS HERE. PLEASE GO AHEAD.
For Floral Pavilion but also keep Crazy Golf.
Think the Floral Pavilion is all right as it is. Don’t think the environment is right for Conference/Exhibition Hall. The Crazy Golf would be better improved.
I THINK IT’S A GREAT IDEA AND ONCE AGAIN I’M ALL FOR IT. IT WILL BRING BUSINESS BACK TO NEW BRIGHTON. THIS HAS NEEDED REPAIR FOR A WHILE NOW.
O.K.
There are enough Conference Centres around already. Bring Crazy Golf up to date. After the fire the lovely Floral Pavilion is going to need a great deal of money spending on it. The shows are excellent for all ages.
THE THEATRE HAS WAITED FAR TOO LONG FOR FACE LIFT AND SHOULD HAVE FIRST PRIORITY. THE FLORAL DOES ATTRACT BIG STAR NAMES AND IT’S THE ONLY THEATRE TO ACCOMMODATE THE WIRRAL.
This is an important part of the facilities New Brighton offers.
Providing it will be just the theatre that will be refurbished.
MORE INFORMATION ON ARCHITECTURAL STYLE, HEIGHT OF BUILDINGS, PARKING, ACCESS.
LEAVE CRAZY GOLF, TENNIS COURTS AND BOWLS – PLENTY OF ROOM IN VICTORIA ROAD FOR CONFERENCE CENTRE.
Provided a business plan shows a need and the rate payers don’t have to pay extra for its upkeep.
WILL MAKE NEW BRIGHTON MORE APPEALABLE FOR MERSEYSIDERS.
VERY MUCH IN FAVOUR. A LONG OVERDUE PROJECT.
I would welcome the refurbishment of the Floral Pavilion.
EXCEPT THAT THE CRAZY GOLF SITE SHOULD NOT BE BUILT ON IF IT IS FREQUENTLY USED.
As long as the place attracts something different. People are sick of ABBA look-a-likes and Ken Dodd.
IT IS ESSENTIAL THAT A THEATRE IS MAINTAINED FOR THE PEOPLE OF WIRRAL AND VISITORS WITH THE SUPPORT OF RADIO MERSEYSIDE.
This venue is, and has been, a great theatre and deserves to be refurbished and enlarged. The people of Wirral support this theatre all through the year with affection. Myself since a tiny child when there was just one spot light from the back of the auditorium. I’m heartily in favour of this scheme.
I can’t see the need for a Conference/Exhibition Hall but the Floral Pavilion could perhaps be refurbished to look like a theatre instead of a barn.
PROVIDED ADDITIONAL EXTENSIONS BLEND IN WITH THE ORIGINAL BUILDING.
Restaurants/Bars/Cinema/Casino/Health and Fitness Center
A Cinema perhaps – the others NO.
NO MORE BARS – WE HAVE ENOUGH ALREADY!
I don’t see much point in any of these and I doubt if they would succeed commercially. This degree of development only on existing sites.
It would depend on where – should be in keeping with the character of New Brighton.
VITAL FOR ANY TOURIST AREA.
There are enough “drinking holes” although, as with restaurants, quality needs to improve. Health and fitness needs to be more affordable. A definite yes to a cinema as the current cost of going to Birkenhead/Bromborough is prohibitive.
A NONSENSE – THE WORST OF WHITE JUMBOS!!
Against a Casino. A cinema is essential as we have none – all right if you live in Birkenhead or can drive.
There’s more than enough alcohol outlets in New Brighton. Would a cinema be
viable considering all the other cinemas in Wallasey have closed?
AGAINST A CASINO IN ANY SHAPE OR FORM!!
An excellent proposal.
This would help the younger generation.
More visitors and more for Wallasey people in their own area so has to be a good idea.
ANY INITIATIVE THAT ENCOURAGES VISITORS AND PROVIDES FACILITIES FOR LOCAL PEOPLE SHOULD BE ENCOURAGED. BEAR IN MIND IT NEEDS TO BE FAMILY FRIENDLY AS WELL.
These facilities are what is currently lacking in New Brighton.
I do not particularly like the idea of a Casino. The cinema is a good idea – hope it would be used.
AGAINST CASINO AND MORE BARS. FOR CINEMA AND HEALTH CENTRE.
There are plenty of buildings in New Brighton which could be utilised.
I’d rather have a cinema than a casino.
THERE ARE MANY IN THE AREA.
NOT SURE ABOUT THE CASINO!!!
Against a casino, cinema and health & fitness centre if the buildings are new and are of the usual tin shed/warehouse designs seen in Liverpool.
IT WOULD BE GREAT TO HAVE THESE IN NEW BRIGHTON INSTEAD OF TRAVELLING OUT OF THE AREA.
Birkenhead has been provided with a lot of regeneration and it is now time for New Brighton.
DEPENDS ON HOW THESE WOULD BE DONE.
THE SECOND BEST IDEA YET – AFTER OPEN AIR POOL!
Entertainment is a good idea – get rid of car boot sales shops.
WE SHOULD BE DOING MORE TO GET THE TEENAGER OFF THE STREETS AND THE PARK – THEY JUST DRINK AND MAKE A LOT OF NOISE – THEY NEED SOMETHING TO DO.
Use existing buildings.
I am totally opposed to any form of casino being built in New Brighton. We certainly do not need a fitness centre. A few nice restaurants would be nice and maybe one or two well run wine bars.
AGREE – ESPECIALLY CINEMA AND HEALTH AND FITNESS – RESERVATIONS RE NEW BARS BUT AGREE WITH FAMILY RESTAURANTS – NOT TOO MANY DUE TO EXISTING ONES AND
LOCAL TAKE-AWAYS.
SOME OF THE OLD HOTELS AND CLUBS ON THE SEAFRONT COULD DO WITH TOTAL REFURBISHMENT – COULD NOT THEY BE USED?
Another very good idea.
Anything that attracts tourists is good and going to the cinema would make an agreeable change as we no longer have one in Wallasey.
PROVIDED A DECENT SIZED HOTEL FOR VISITORS IS ALSO INCLUDED.
As long as it fits into the landscape sensibly.
THERE ARE SOME GREAT IDEAS HERE BUT I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW WHEN IS ALL THIS GOING TO BE STARTED?
Anything that will attract the tourists.
THE AREA IS CREAKING UNDER THE WEIGHT OF BARS AND INFERIOR CAFES. FLY POSTING HAS SWAMPED WIRRAL. READ THE VENUE AND NAMES OF OFFENDERS. WE ARE STUCK WITH IT BECAUSE IT IS ACCEPTABLE TO AUTHORITY.
YES PLEASE.
Think there are enough restaurants and bars. Not the place for a casino. More family orientated. Would rather see King Street cinema re-opened. Also, already enough health and fitness.
This is what we’ve needed for many years so, yes, I’m all for it. I just hope you developers don’t back down because we’ve been let down so many times.
IN PRINCIPLE – WOULD NEED TO BE CAREFULLY MONITORED.
Use existing buildings and some imagination. A casino – not a good idea. Bars – there are more than enough already. We would have more drunken yobs and possible crime.
IT WOULD BE NICE TO SEE THE OLD NEGLECTED BUILDINGS ALONG THE SEA FRONT REFURBISHED AS RESTAURANTS, BARS ETC. THEY ARE CURRENTLY AN EYESORE I.E. THE ANCHOR/GRAND HOTEL.
I would like to see a Health and Fitness centre, also an ice rink and more shops – forget the Casino. The shops have all gone at the prom end of Victoria Road and replaced with houses. We want more than houses in New Brighton.
THERE IS NO CINEMA NOW IN WALLASEY.
The “ grand Hotel” should be refurbished – as part of a row of interesting looking buildings it alone has been left to go to wrack and ruin. Perhaps Wetherspoons would be interested in it?
CERTAINLY NO CASINO.
RESTAURANTS – YES: BARS – NO. THERE ARE ENOUGH BARS ALREADY . CINEMA – YES.
Against a Casino as I feel it would bring the wrong sort of people to New Brighton. I think we need to concentrate on families.
NO SITE QUOTED. WHAT TYPE OF BUILDINGS? NOISE AND LITTER. POLLUTION. PRIVATE OR PUBLIC LEISURE USE? TRAFFIC ACCESS AND EGRESS. PARKING.
IF EXISTING BUILDINGS CAN BE USED.
Restaurants, Yes, but the rest, No.
Yes to a Mini Plex Cinema. And Health and Fitness Centre.
YES! YES! YES! MAYBE ON THE OLD FAIRGROUND SITE. (THE INDOOR ONE).
Would prefer to know which buildings are intended for this development before commenting.
MORE BARS – LEADS TO MORE VANDALISM!
Not enough information as to which buildings are to be used.
BUT NOT ON GREENFIELD SITES.
I AM AGAINST A CASINO AS I DO NOT BELIEVE IN GAMBLING.
Let’s see the plans.
Have not had enough information.
PRE WAR, WHEN THE POLICE USED TO WALK ABOUT IN TWO’S IN NEW BRIGHTON TO KEEP THE PEACE FROM DRUNKS AND ROWDIES, WOULD HAVE TO COME BACK A DOZEN-FOLD – DEFINITELY NO.
Perhaps a few more restaurants and a cinema with plenty of parking space. I find it a nuisance to have to go to Birkenhead or Bromborough to see a film. I don’t agree with a Health/Fitness centre even though it would be convenient for me. It would put others out of business.
Superstore
Only if there is nothing else as an “all year” attraction. It will adversely affect the few small businesses left in Wallasey.
WHY?
What kind? What about parking? What of the Bidston Sites and Wallasey/New Brighton’s own businesses?
There should be ample parking and good access.
There are enough supermarkets. The old pool site is the focal point of the seafront – it should not be dominated by a store plus car park.
PREFERABLY A DECENT SUPERSTORE.
I see no need for a superstore which would ruin the character of New Brighton sea front ( unless it is built in an Art Deco style with a minimum of external advertisement placarding). Presumably it would also require a large car park.
We feel that New Brighton residents should not be held to ransom by a corporate organisation which would take a prime spot within the resort thereby ruining that length of promenade for any future development re leisure centre, skateboard park etc.
I would prefer to see a shopping mall to cater for all.
WE NEED TO REVITALISE THE LOCAL STORE OWNERS BY HELP WITH EXPANSION AND DEVELOPMENT.
The town/area does not need another superstore. Please let us have some decent shopping within walking distance or just a bus fare away.
Provided it is someone other than Asda/Tesco/ Kwik Save –more competition is needed.
A MUST IF EVERYTHING ELSE DEPENDS ON IT. I DON’T THINK IT WOULD AFFECT LOCAL TRADERS ONLY RIVAL SUPERSTORES.
WELL – WHAT CAN ONE SAY?
I DON’T THINK ANOTHER SUPERSTORE WOULD BE VIABLE.
Agree but with reservations.
LOCAL SHOPS SHOULD BE ENCOURAGED INSTEAD OF PEOPLE HAVING TO TRAVEL TO OUT OF TOWN AREAS.
THIS IS A PROBLEM FOR ME AS I DON’T DRIVE AND HAVE 2 YOUNG CHILDREN TO TAKE WITH ME SO I WOULD WELCOME THIS.
So long as some revenue is ploughed back into local smaller shops so they
remain viable.
IT COULD BE AN ASSET, ENCOURAGING VISITORS AND TRADE TO THE AREA. LOCAL TRADERS NEED TO BE CONSULTED AND IT NEEDS CAREFUL PLANNING AND ORGANISING – PARKING FACILITIES AND PAYMENT NEED TO BE CONSIDERED PLUS WEATHER DISADVANTAGES.
While a really big development could be an excellent thing I can’t see any of the big chains putting money into such a risky venture.
Would traffic not become a nightmare at the roundabout or Darcy’s?
It would need to be disguised, or very classy like the Trafford Centre in Manchester. We need to go upmarket as well as keep our traditions. What about a historically correct pirate theme – colourful and exciting, scary and atmospheric.
THE AREA MAY BECOME TOO CROWDED.
Not sure – concerned about local traders.
PREFER NOTHING TO HAPPEN THAN HAVE A SUPERSTORE ON THE SEAFRONT. THIS IS A TOTALLY INAPPROPRIATE DEVELOPMENT.
If it means we get the other facilities then O.K.
This is an ideal site for a leisure centre.
NEW BRIGHTON WOULD BENEFIT FROM A LARGE SUPERSTORE.
NOT SURE.
We have sufficient superstores in the area already. In my opinion this would totally detract from any benefits as a tourist area. If it is the only way it would happen I would prefer to reject it.
GOOD IDEA. THE SPACE AS IT IS NEITHER USE NOR ORNAMENT. TERRIBLE SHAME THAT IT WAS EVER DEMOLISHED.
SOUNDS LIKE POLITIC SPEAK TO ME. WILL SOMEONE EXPLAIN HOW A SUPERSTORE, WHO ARE SOLELY CONCERNED WITH REMOVING YOUR CASH, ALBEIT FOR GOODS, WILL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR REVENUE – APART, OF COURSE, FROM THE SHORT TERM SITE PURCHASE. SOUNDS
LIKE THE USUAL WIRRAL COUNCIL CLOWN GOBBLEDEGOOK TO ME.
Would it be the best place for a superstore? There must be a better place to put a complex like that! Put the baths back there.
WOULD PREFER THIS TO BE USED FOR THE OPEN AIR SWIMMING POOL.
ABSOLUTELY THE WRONG PLACE. IF SUCH A STORM OF THE MAGNITUDE OF THE ONE THAT DESTROYED THE BATHS WERE TO HIT, FOOD OR WHATEVER WOULD BE SCATTERED ALL OVER THE PROM. AN ALTERNATIVE LOCATION SHOULD BE FOUND.
Don’t think this would detract from local shops as need would still be there for people without cars, last minute purchases and buying small amounts of food, not pre-packed.
THIS IDEA HAS GOT TO BE A JOKE! WE ALREADY HAVE ASDA AND KWIK SAVE. THE LOCAL SHOPS IN VICTORIA ROAD WOULD BE OUT OF BUSINESS. I WOULD PREFER NO DEVELOPMENT AT ALL.
W do not need another superstore – Asda 5 mins away, Tesco 7 mins away, Sainsbury’s 10 mins away. Another one? One year away from disaster for small shops. Think community service. I’ve worked on Seabank Road for 30 years. Have you?
Another good idea.
FOR HEAVENS SAKE USE YOUR BRAIN – WE DO NOT WANT ANY MORE SUPERSTORES, THIS WOULD SPOIL NEW BRIGHTON FOR GOOD! I DO NOT BELIEVE THAT YOU CANNOT DO ANY OF THE OTHER THINGS WITHOUT THIS MONEY.
GOOD IDEA FOR THOSE WHO LIVE LOCAL IN NEW BRIGHTON.
BLACKMAIL – LET NEPTUNE TAKE THEIR EASY MONEY ELSEWHERE. NEPTUNE ARE LOOKING FOR FOOLS.
What a silly place for a Supermarket – I’ll be there with my camera on the first storm! Put it somewhere else.
By all means. People would come from all over and it would make local people very happy not having to travel to a decent store.
I am against a Superstore as I don’t think it would profit and I don’t want building on the Tower Grounds even though I would like New Brighton to prosper.
Yes because this will create jobs in the area. Also we want to know what
kind of Superstore it is. Will it affect the Kwik Save at all?
IF WE HAVE TO RELY ON A “TESCO” OR “ASDA” TO ATTRACT PEOPLE TO NEW BRIGHTON THEN IT WON’T SUCCEED.
Maybe – more traffic, more pollution, Kwik Save is excellent. Why can’t a lovely heated swimming pool and a Health and Fitness centre be built on the site of New Brighton Pool instead?
ONLY TO ENABLE THE FORMER TO TAKE PLACE.
I’M FOR A SUPERSTORE BUT WHY CAN’T WE HAVE OUR POOL BACK ? WE NEED FACILITIES FOR VISITORS NOT HOUSES AND SHOPS.
Have misgivings – could create a traffic and parking problem. There are plenty of stores serving the area already. Local shops would lose custom – a backward step after the regeneration of Victoria Road.
This part of the Wirral does not need another Superstore – also, what impact would this have on a successfully regenerated Victoria Road shopping area? New Brighton should be a recreational centre.
CAR PARKING FOR STORE TO BE ADJACENT.
YES, PROVIDING WE SEE MORE PLANS AND INFORMATION REGARDING EXACT SITE, SIZE AND WHEN.
Providing it isn’t a noisy eyesore.
I have to support this but I think we have adequate supermarkets in the area.
NOT A SUITABLE SIZE FOR ANY ALL YEAR ROUND SERVICES.
Inappropriate site for store – not a seaside resort facility – a large store at centre or larger car park would ruin recently renovated promenade. All major shopping is gravitating to Birkenhead and Retail Parks -–Millions are being spent in Liverpool on shops, hotels and Conference facilities etc There is no guarantee that this store would generate the capital to justify the rest of the project.
It would “NOT” benefit New Brighton – sufficient superstores on Wirral as it is – another white elephant.
A STORE IN THAT PRIME SITE WOULD BE AN ABOMINATION. SURELY THE POWERS THAT BE COULD COME UP WITH SOMETHING MORE BEFITTING TO THE AREA.
A GOOD IDEA AS LONG AS IT WAS A LOW ONE STOREY BUILDING WHICH HAD THE LOADING BAYS AT THE REAR ON
THE SIDE OF THE SEA AND TASTEFUL – SAFE ACCESS AND PARKING.
Definitely against a Superstore being built. This would bring more traffic, noise and litter to the area.
Why not just an enclosed sun centre as at Rhyll – on the old site?
This proposal, in our opinion, would be a tragic misuse of a prime site/position. A superstore would contribute nothing to New Brighton’s waning reputation as a resort.
THIS SITE OF A FOOD STORE WOULD OCCASIONALLY BE SUBJECT TO WEATHER DAMAGE. WOULD PUT A LOT OF LOCAL TRADERS OUT OF BUSINESS. THE WAY THIS QUESTION IS PUT IT APPEARS THAT THE SUPERMARKET IS THE FIRST CONSIDERATION AND THE REST OF NEW BRIGHTON IS SECONDARY WITHOUT ANY GUARANTEE LEISURE FACILITIES WOULD FOLLOW.
GOOD IDEA.
CERTAINLY A SUPERSTORE.
We are a bit worried over the site considering what happened to the old Baths with winter gales. Shoppers on foot would be exposed to the elements.
THIS WOULD BE THE LAST STRAW!! NO.
What happens to the shopkeepers who are already trying to make a living? I think it would change New Brighton for ever. You only have to visit Asda’s car park to see what it would be like.
PROVIDED IT CATERS FOR ALL NEEDS REQUIRED BY RESIDENTS AS WELL AS TOURISM.
Other facilities suggested
Why is the Bright Spot not mentioned. Even if it is privately owned would not a joint venture to improve and update the facilities there provide a much better tourist attraction?
How about a Marina for yachts and motor cruisers like in Brighton which is adjacent to an Asda Superstore and shopping mall.
Inexpensive leisure facilities for Wirral families.
Why not redevelop what already exists? A superstore could be made out of the indoor funfair, some of the more run down pubs could house the other facilities.
A COMMUNITY LEISURE CENTRE WITH SPORTS AND SOCIAL FACILITIES i.e. BATHS, GYM, SPORTS HALL etc – BUILT ON THE OLD SWIMMING BATHS SITE – THANK YOU.
I would like to see a tower built with a viewing area and a restaurant on top.
Excuse me if I’m sceptical but will I live to see any of this??
A complete “tidy up” of derelict property and regeneration of run down areas – all schemes “promised” by Superstore developers are spurious. Funds must come from EEC grants and Government only.
A much better bus service so that people who do not drive can get to these hopefully new facilities – but a lot lower bus fares!!
A LOT OF FUSS IS MADE ABOUT LACK OF FACILITIES FOR THE YOUNG. CONSIDERING THAT THE POPULATION OF NEW BRIGHTON IS MAINLY ELDERLY, HOW ABOUT MORE FACILITIES FOR THEM?
I think a good hotel – possibly incorporating the Health and fitness centre would be a welcome addition especially with 12 Quays now operating. We don’t see many police about at the moment. Are they going to get extra help to cope with the extra public we hope to see with this new development?
A COVERED ICE RINK.
A LAND TRAIN – SIMILAR TO THE ONE IN RHYLL WHICH COULD RUN ALONG THE PROM GIVING EASIER ACCESS TO FACILITIES THERE.
A Marina – but that’s “pie in the sky”. Marinas have a huge impact on prosperity. How about another tower?
ROLLER SKATING, ICE SKATING, GAMES COURTS INSTEAD OF A
SWIMMING POOL.
THE OPPORTUNITY TO HIRE BOATS LIKE THE “OLD DAYS” IN NEW BRIGHTON.
A safer building for Adventureland. Better lit prom up to the Derby Pool. Really good security. A good tram system. Update and improve the Bowling Alley. Have a litter watch and dog pooh battalion to roam New Brighton.
A BIGGER COMMUNITY CENTRE. THE PRESENT ONE IS TOO SMALL.
An ice rink.
CLEAN TOILETS AND A GENERAL CLEAN-UP. DEMOLITION OF THE GRAND HOTEL.
A PERMANENT OUTDOOR/INDOOR FAIR LIKE SOUTHPORT AND
BLACKPOOL AND A LARGE SHOPPING ARCADE.
Development of some kind of Arts facility.
Clean up Marine Lake totally and keep it in good order and condition. Bring some pride back to New Brighton and make it a place people enjoy living in.
BANK, CHEMIST, POLICE STATION (MANNED)
Restore the Grand Hotel to its former glory – before vandalism destroys the building beyond restoration.
SOME PLACE FOR YOUNG PEOPLE TO USE THEIR SKATEBOARDS AND ROLLERBLADES.
I long to see New Brighton have the facility to attract tourism/day trippers and even get people coming to spend a holiday here. The potential for New Brighton is limitless. Those who saw it 40 or 50 years ago had their ideas stifled by local beaurocracy. They left never to return. Let us not have this happen again.
Children’s paddling pool – more toilet facilities – preferably clean – possibly with attendants.
A TRAM SYSTEM TAKING PEOPLE TO AND AROUND THE AREA.
I’M SURE WHATEVER IS DONE WILL BE SATISFACTORY. I APPRECIATE BEING ASKED MY VIEWS. I’M SURE IT MAKES US ALL FEEL PART OF A COMMUNITY TO BE PROUD OF.
All I would really like you to do is to look ahead and make New Brighton a really lovely place to live in and for people from all over the country to visit. It will not affect me as I am 86 so I don’t suppose I will ever see it.
DO SOMETHING FOR A CHANGE INSTEAD OF TALKING FOR 20 YEARS!!
SKATEBOARD PARK MADE BY CAMMELL LAIRD APPRENTICE TO THE DESIGN OF LOCALS WHO ALREADY USE THE DIPS FOR SKATEBOARDING AND BMX BIKING.
ICE RINK – POLLER SKATING RINK – OUTDOOR PLAY AREA FOR KIDS – HOW ABOUT A DANCE HALL IN MEMORY OF THE TOWER THAT COULD BE USED FOR OTHER EVENTS?
The Front (Promenade) rates on of the best in England and the view are fantastic, also the river and sands are really inviting.
These ideas seem excellent. I just hope as the residents of New Brighton we don’t get let down. I welcome all these ideas. This will bring much needed business to the area and this is what we have been crying out for!
There are no more facilities needed except more POLICE. The vandalism is appalling – read the local papers and listen to people.
IF NEW BRIGHTON IS TO BE DEVELOPED MORE CLEANING SERVICES SHOULD BE PROVIDED. LITTER (BOATING POOL AN EXAMPLE) IS DETRIMENTAL TO ANY AREA.
SUNKEN GARDENS AND SEATING FACILITIES AT TRIANGULAR DIP BETWEEN ATHERTON AND PORTLAND STREETS.
I would be totally against anything else being put where the pitch and put, tennis courts and bowling greens are at the bottom of Portland Street.
HAS PLANNING PERMISSION BEEN SOUGHT? IF SO, CAN WE SEE A COPY? ALL THESE SCHEMES WILL ADD TO THE TRAFFIC CONGESTION.
MORE TOILET FACILITIES.
TOILETS – THERE IS NO TOILET IN VALE PARK OR UP BY THE CLIFF.
LOTS MORE RUBBISH BINS AND UPGRADED PUBLIC TOILETS!!
Permanent children’s play area ( slides – swings – climbing frames) next to the model boat pond. Garden walk – way (seats – plants – fountain) on the open dips as on promenade in the Isle of Man.
Another public toilet would be required due to this proposed expansion.
SUPERMARKETS TEND TO BE PURELY FUNCTIONAL BUILDINGS, MUCH LIKE WAREHOUSES IN DESIGN. THERE IS NO INDICATION IN THE ARCHITECTURAL PLANS AS TO HEIGHT OF BUILDINGS AND DESIGN FEATURES. THESE WILL BE IMPORTANT FACTORS IN ALLAYING THE CONCERNS OF LOCAL RESIDENTS.
A CLUB FOR PENSIONERS – WHIST DRIVES, BRIDGE, DANCES ETC. AND WHAT ABOUT A LIBRARY?
Over and over again there have been great plans for New Brighton and none of them have materialised, thank goodness – Here’s hoping that apart from plans to refurbish our lovely little Floral Pavilion theatre none of the other suggestions come to fruition. Just keep the place clean as it stands now.
On the old Baths site I would like to see a special park where the youth could practise their roller boards and trick cycles – much better than the Bandstand in Vale Park – Sorry if I seem negative. It would be nice to be able to swim in the sea safely. As we are a seaside resort, money might be better spent in saving our shore and sea. Also better toilet facilities.
A MUSEUM DEPICTING THE HISTORICAL INTEREST IN WALLASEY THROUGHOUT HISTORY ( POSSIBLY AT FORT PERCH ROCK). A PERMANENT FUNFAIR/AMUSEMENT FACILITY. A TRAMWAY ALONG THE PROM NEW BRIGHTON/SEACOMBE.
