The Newsletter of The Friends Of Vale Park

Drawing of Bandstand

The Friends of Vale Park was started in 1989. We have had 23 new members this year and currently have 197 members. We have just sent out the 92nd edition of our Bandstand Newsletter which goes out 4 times a year to all our members.

During 2004 we have been responsible for a very enjoyable Band Festival which ran from June to September with a massed Brass Band concert on 29th August featuring 4 Brass Bands and sponsored by Wallasey Rotary Club as their Centennial Concert.

We've already begun planning next year's Festival and have had two meetings with members of the Bands.;

For 5 weeks of the school holidays we organised a Children's Talent Show on the Bandstand which had it's Grand Final at the Floral Pavilion Theatre in September. SUMMER SENSATIONS is the successor of JOYTIME which began in 1953 and was the longest running children's show in the country. Most people you meet will remember taking part in it??..

In October we held our Traditional Halloween Disco on the Bandstand. Sadly this year we had to bring in the police and Community Patrol to ward off the local yobs who wanted to spoil it. A sign of the times!

For the second year we produced a Calendar with photographs taken by local people. We're very proud of it - and we've made nearly £1,000 profit.

In December the Mayor of Wirral came and hoisted our Green Flag - for the third year - while our local church choirs sang carols and then we all warmed up over tea and mince pies in Vale House Café. We look forward to another busy year.
